Here are several important announcements regarding the course arrangements for your attention:

1. Group List for GEUC 4011 ?Senior Seminar?, 2012-13

The initial group forming exercise was completed and please log in at http://mmlab.itsc.cuhk.edu.hk/ucgeu / for your own group information and check out updated information at the course WebCT (www.cuhk.edu.hk/webct). ?Please liaise with group members and confirm the research topic after reviewing the research methodology talk at the course website by 30 March 2012.? The topic must not overlap with the previous two years, and the topics of the previous two years have been put in the course WebCT for reference.

2. Course Learning Platform ? WebCT

A course WebCT has been created for GEUC4011 in 2012-13, and all course related documents and news will be uploaded there.? Please log in the CUHK WebCT platform at www.cuhk.edu.hk/webct and choose CUHKOthers ? 2012UGR1GEUC4011.? Please note that the University?s eLearning platform will move from WebCT to Blackboard in 2012-13, and the online course platform will move on 1 May 2012 to Blackboard.

3. Pre-course Talk Materials and Quiz

This year, the online materials of research methodology and research writing have been uploaded in the WebCT (CUHKOthers ? 2012UGR1GEUC4011) under the ?Course Content?.? After reviewing the pre-course talk materials, all students are required to complete an online quiz, and the passing score is 6 out of the 10 questions.? As part of the course requirement, each student MUST attain the passing mark by between 1 May and 21 September 2012.? For those students who do not complete the quiz or have a passing score, they will be subject to one sub-grade deduction in their final course grades.

4. Multimedia Production Workshop

To provide assistance for students in taking GEUC4011, a multimedia production workshop will be held in the afternoons in mid-May 2012, and this arrangement is optional. The workshops are jointly organized by the College General Education Office and the Tien Chi Microcomputer Laboratory, each session will last for 1.5 hour.? Details will be announced in due time.? Kindly register for the course via the e-ticketing system at www.cuhk.edu.hk/eticket beginning from ??1 May 2012. ?Please tick the link of UC General Education Activities. ?The materials of the workshop will be available later on the web for reference.

5. Award and Prizes

To encourage the research groups in their work, the College has established several awards for this course, namely, two ?Outstanding GEU Project Awards? and two ?Professor Yeung Chung-kee Multimedia Production Award? each carrying prize money of $2,000.? Students with outstanding performance in class will be awarded book coupons of $100.? The supervisors would help to nominate suitable groups and individual students for these honors.? The money-term prize is not big, but the College believes that the meaning behind is huge in acknowledging the effort in this course.

6. Course Supervisors

The assigning of course supervisors is now in progress, and hopefully the results will be announced in early May 2012.? Notice will be sent to students in due time.
